Project Title: "Optimizing Employee Onboarding with Gagné’s 9 Instructional Events"

Project Overview:

• Context: Focused on improving the employee onboarding process.

• Goal: To structure the onboarding experience using Gagné’s 9 Instructional Events, making the integration of new employees more effective and engaging.

My Role in the Design Process:

• Needs Assessment: Identified the need for a more structured and engaging onboarding process.

• Learning Framework: Applied Gagné’s 9 Instructional Events to guide the flow and content of onboarding, ensuring each step supported knowledge retention and engagement.

• Design & Development: Created slides and presentation elements in Canva, using images and video clips to visually represent each instructional event. This reinforced the onboarding process and made it more visually engaging.

• Reflection on Tools: Gained hands-on experience with Canva, which helped me build confidence in visual design and presentation. This project was a learning opportunity to explore visual storytelling and improve my familiarity with Canva’s features.

Technologies and Tools Used:

• Canva: For creating presentation slides and visual elements.

• Script Development: Structured the narrative and content to align each onboarding step with Gagné’s instructional events.

Limitations:

• Deadline: Completed within a limited course assignment timeline.

• Experience with Tool: Initially unfamiliar with Canva; used this project as a chance to improve visual design skills and comfort with the tool.

Outcome & Reflection:

• Impact: This project inspired me to rethink our current onboarding process, seeing how each instructional event could enhance engagement and knowledge retention for new hires.

• Personal Reflection: This experience improved my design thinking around workplace training, helping me see the practical value of applying instructional theory to real-world situations. I feel more confident about using Canva and appreciate the role of visual design in creating effective learning experiences.
